Kaitlyn was told she wouldn't be able to carry any more of her own children due to health issues and that's when her mom stepped up.
Kaitlyn Munoz has so many memories of her mother stepping up to help her, right from her childhood days. Chalise Smith is mom to eight children, including Munoz, and she couldn't ignore the call for help from her daughter, even at the age of 50. This time, she needed a surrogate to carry her child and Smith stepped up. "My mom did a lot of things for me when I was a little girl that I couldn’t do for myself here I am 24 years later and again she’s doing something that I can’t do for myself, she is carrying my child," wrote 25-year-old Munoz on Instagram. Munoz was told she wouldn't be able to carry any more of her own children due to health issues. The 25-year-old was diagnosed with endometriosis, and Sjögren's syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack the glands that make tears and saliva. It can also be damaging to the body, joints, thyroid, kidneys, liver, and more, reported PEOPLE.
Munoz had two frozen embryos and needed a surrogate, and that's when her mom offered to carry the baby. "I saw Kaitlyn go through the IVF process, and I know what it entails. There's all the shots and so many emotions that are involved with it, and I told her that I understood the risks, and that I had been praying about it for three weeks," said Smith. "Then she told me, 'I was just sitting here thinking about who could I have carry my embryos, and you called me up.'"
Munoz couldn't thank her mother enough. "I have been so blessed with this momma of mine. She is the most selfless person I know. She is an example of faith, dedication, and love," said the 25-year-old. On May 17, Smith gave birth to Alayna Kait Chalise Munoz at American Fork Hospital. It was an emotional experience for Smith. "Never did I think I would experience something like this or have a baby at 50! I needed to make sure I wasn’t making an emotional choice so before I shared the idea with Kyle or Kaitlyn & Miguel, I needed to know if this was the right choice," she wrote on Facebook. "As I turned to my Heavenly Father and Savior, through prayer and always pondering my choice in my heart, there were countless moments of guidance and confirmations that this path was a path for me. This sweet little girl has already brought so much joy into our lives and she will continue to be a blessing and joy, especially, to her parents and brother Callahan. She is a miracle."
Munoz shared pictures of her mom from the hospital and wrote, "I am at a loss of words. My mom is a living angel and brought us another blessing earth side and we are in LOVE. When my mom offered to be our surrogate it just felt so right. My mom did so amazing throughout the pregnancy and we had an amazing delivery experience. Grateful for my mom and her selflessness in this journey."
People showered Smith, Munoz, and little Alayna with love. "This is so inspiring and beautiful. Such a sweet testimony. Thank you for your example of love, sacrifice, and faith," wrote Kelly Shelton. "You are such an incredible woman. God bless you and her family Love you Chalise!" commented Marianne. "I am so grateful that I got to know you. I love how your testimony shines through without even speaking. By their fruits, ye shall know them," added Donna.
