42YO Father Is Fighting To Stay Alive After 21-YO Son Went Out With Friends & Infected Whole Family With The Virus

John Place is alone at the hospital. His wife is unable to be by his side while he struggles with the deadly virus.

Despite warnings and the large number of deaths reported around the world, some people still think the pandemic is nothing more than a hoax.

Then there are those who know the reality and still refrain from following the guidelines laid by the government and medical authorities. An incident from Florida depicts how the carelessness of one person can leave an entire family's life hanging by a thread.

According to the Daily Mail, John Place and his family tested positive after his 21-year-old son refused his parents' plea to stay home and went out with his friends. The ignorant son got infected with the virus and then transmitted it to everyone in the family. In June, all the family members were tested positive. However, it was only Place, who had to be admitted to the hospital. After four days of continuous coughing and fever, the 42-year-old got hospitalized at the Westside Regional Medical Center.

With his condition worsening, the doctors have shifted him to the intensive care unit. Due to his difficulty with breathing, he was put on a ventilator and was forced to spend more than two weeks in the ICU. Though he was eventually taken off from the ventilator, Place is still fighting for his life. Meanwhile, his wife Michelle Zymet, and three children are at home, unable to see him.

Speaking about her husband's condition, the woman stated, "He’s fighting for his life literally every single minute in that hospital," according to Mirror Online. She added, "We’re all Covid positive. None of us can leave the house. We can’t go anywhere. I can’t see my husband. It’s difficult, and it’s scary that he’s there all alone.”

She claimed that she had pleaded her step-son to rethink his decision to go out. She told him to consider his father, who was at a higher risk due to obesity and diabetes.

However, he went on with his plan after asking her to "relax" and "chill". "He always assured me, "Don't worry, mom. I'm doing everything right, relax, chill." You know how these kids are, so I trusted in him," told Zymet, according to the Daily Mail.

The young man, whose identity has not been revealed went out for drinks and removed his mask in the company of his friends.

Just days later, he developed symptoms of cold. Soon, a friend of the young man told him that she had tested positive. By then it was too late as everyone at Place's household was already infected.

"You let your guard down just one time, it's all it takes. You come home, and you infect the entire house," said Zymet, according to the Daily Mail. She added, "They don't necessarily listen. It could be peer pressure. Maybe they think, 'None of us are sick. We are fine.' They don't understand many of us are asymptomatic and are positive carriers of the virus," told the mother and wife.

Further, she warned people to take the virus seriously. She asked people to adhere to the guidelines. "You’re not invincible. This is not a joke. This is a deadly, devastating disease that is affecting millions of people across the world," said the woman.

She added, "You need to listen and understand that you got to take the necessary precautions, Just wear the mask. At least wear your mask and try to wash your hands as often as you can," according to Mirror Online.

Meanwhile, the young man refrained from talking to the media. But, he told his father that he thought he had a common cold. He also informed him that he took some over-the-counter medication after the symptoms. Even when he was informed about his friend's positive test, the young man did not imagine him to have the virus.

But with family members falling ill one by one, the family was forced to take a test to confirm their illness. His 14-year-old brother was the first one to fall ill.

The teenager, who is obese showed symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. The young man's six-year-old sister had running nose while his stepmother showed symptoms such as chills, fever and body ache.
