15-Year-Old With Terminal Cancer Comforts Brother After Breaking News That He Will Die Soon

He wanted to tell his younger brother himself instead of letting his parents break the news.

Internet users are overwhelmed after viewing a heartbreaking picture of a 15-year-old kid comforting his crying brother. The picture was taken just after Ian broke the terrible news of his cancer metastasizing such that he might die soon. Ian received an osteosarcoma diagnosis, a kind of bone cancer, in 2019. His family was overjoyed to find that he was cancer-free after months of treatment and surgery. But, in November 2021, they learned that the disease had expanded throughout his body in addition to returning, reports Daily Mail

His family has now been informed that there is nothing that can be done for Ian on the medical front and he will likely breathe his last soon.

Peter, Ian's younger brother, burst into tears as he was told this heart-breaking news. He can be seen hugging his brother and crying uncontrollably at the thought that he might lose him soon. But Ian gathered all his courage to console his brother in the photo, even though he is aware that his days in this world are numbered.

A guy from Oregon called Benjamin Elliott, whose relationship with brothers Ian and Peter is unknown, posted a devastating snapshot of the tender moment between the two brothers on Facebook. The photo instantly went viral and moved many people to tears. He wrote in the post, "Without speaking, this photo conveys a stronger message than words ever will. This past week, Ian and his family would learn that there was nothing else they could do."

He added, "Cancer that had ravaged his body in the past and he had beat would soon be the same cancer that kills him. In fact, he was OK with it." Elliot mentioned that Ian said, "I only want to do one good thing in the world before I leave you all."

Ian informed his friends and his little brother that his disease will surely kill him instead of letting his parents relay the news. Elliot added, "Think this picture truly shines the light on the "good" that Ian wanted and believed he needed to share. Even in his devastating prognosis, it was Ian who would comfort and console his friends and little brothers." He wanted to tell his younger brother himself instead of letting his parents break the news.

Ian stated that he will not "sit around dying" going forward; rather, he has "chosen to be busy living until his death becomes a reality." People were extremely moved by this gesture Ian and flooded the comments section with words of support and love.
